Caju Believe It!

24 Apr

There’s something I’ve been holding back. Something I’ve been meaning to write for a while, but things have kept getting in my path. Not for much longer.

When I was in Rio I made one huge discovery which almost blew the top of my head off. It’s all to do with this fella:

Caju!

In Brazil they would call this a Caju. We would call it a Cashew. It’s only a bleeding Cashew nut! It’s not even a nut. I can’t believe it. It even has two parts to it. One is the proper fruit bit which you can have as quite a nice juice, though extremely sweet. And then on the end of this fruit grows a peduncle, a peduncle for God’s sake, which grows into the real fruit of the plant, which happens to be a cashew nut. Though if you ate the cashew nut raw your whole face would be on fire. It’s completely allergic, I think similar to poison ivy, so you have to roast it first. Then it tastes pretty good.

Just thought I would share this. I feel it’s pretty important the word gets out!
